On 9th October 2017, the official Viacom 18’s YouTube channel revealed the first trailer of the much-awaited film Padmavati. The trailer gained millions of views in just hours and was loved by many viewers. Shahid Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, and Ranveer Singh will play the lead role in this movie. This movie was supposed to release on 1st December, however, after watching the trailer, many Rajputs got offended, and the release of the movie is suspended indefinitely.
The main reason why all the Rajputs of Karni Sena offended was that they claim the film to be inaccurate and portrays the Queen Padmavati with a bad personality. Many people of Karni Sena damaged the set property to stop the release of the film. In addition to that, they also tried to stop the shooting of the film earlier.
One major news leaked about these Karni Sena members was that all of these controversies were already planned about this film so that they could get some money from the filmmakers of the film. Bhartiya Janta Party’s politician Akhilesh Khandelwal posted on his official Facebook account that anyone who will hit the director of the movie, Sanjay Leela Bhansali with a shoe will be rewarded.
These supporters have also made threats of burning down the theatres wherever the movie will be released. Another reason behind this threatening was that they thought the film contained some romantic scenes of Queen Padmavati and Khilji. However, the director cleared all those allegations and declared that there are no such scenes in the movie.
Moreover, these Karni Sena members have also threatened to cause damage to the lives of the director and the lead actress of the film. By keeping all these things in mind, the Mumbai Police arranged some special protection for both the personalities. The BBFC passed the film without making any cuts and decided to release the film on 1st December. The Karni Sena members still never stopped and threatened to burn the theatres in Britain as well. With that thing in mind, the makers decided not to release the film anywhere before India and stopped its release.
Another incident happened to that film was the death of a person. The body was found hanging at the Nahargarh Fort, and there was a quote written right next to it stating ‘Padmavati Ka Virodh’. Though it is still unclear that whether the death was a suicide or murder, taking a life just for opposing a movie is not justified. The cause of the death was due to hanging, and the body was a businessman.
People raised a petition in the Supreme Court of India to stop the release of the movie, but the court declined the same stating it as freedom of speech and expression. The film is still pending at the Central Board of Film Certification and won’t be released without their permission.
Padmavati is one of the most-high budget #Bollywood movies with a budget of more than 160 crores. Ram-Leela and Bajirao Mastani were the two films where we got to see Ranveer and Deepika together, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed both of these movies. They were praised by the fans, and Bajirao Mastani also gave the Best Director Filmfare Award to Mr. Bhansali. The release of the movie is still pending at the CBFC and we can only hope that the board clears the movie and the fans can see this Indian historical drama movie without any cuts.
